The football club Juventus Turin now offers its star players as digital trading cards on the Sorare platform. This means that stars like Cristiano Ronaldo can also be owned on the football platform with blockchain functionality. This was confirmed by the platform on Twitter:
“Welcome Juventus FC to our game of fantasy football.”
Become a manager online
The deal, which was only announced on Wednesday, will allow football fans to collect digital “cards” from players like Cristiano Ronaldo. With the help of the French company, fans can become managers themselves by swapping their cards.
The whole system is supported by the Ethereum Blockchain. Sorare explained that the collector cards are so-called “non-fungible tokens” (NFT), which were developed with the ERC-721 standard. CEO Nicolas Julia said:
“We are proud to have signed a contract with such an Italian heavyweight.”
“We see this as a new important step in our vision to attract the best football clubs in the world and offer blockchain games to football fans around the world,” he added.
Indeed, Juventus Turin is not the first top club to be represented on Sorare. There are also players from Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and FC Porto.
How does the game work?
Solare produces 111 cards for each player. One card will have the status “unique”, 10 will be “super rare” and 100 cards will have the status “rare”. The cards of superstar Ronaldo are available since yesterday.
In the game you have to build teams of five players. Your team is as good as the maps you own. If you are not satisfied with your team, there is the possibility to swap maps. Popular players can also be sold. According to Sorare, some players are worth up to 2000 US dollars.
This is not the first time that Juventus has been involved in a Blockchain project. In 2018 the club released a token that allows fans to participate in surveys. The token was developed in cooperation with Socios.
